Tell Scotland's new First Minister what you love

For the love of country walks and Scotland's beautiful seasons. For the love of the food on our plates. For the love of our global neighbours. For the love of the Arctic and the Great Barrier Reef. For the love of all the things we care about, we're taking action on climate change, and we're not alone.

We all love things that are already being affected by climate change, or will be in the future. With new leadership in the Scottish Government, we must make sure that the new First Minister remains committed to tackling the defining issue of our time.

People living in poverty are hit first and hardest by climate change. Extreme weather is already making it hard for many of the world's poorest people to grow enough food to feed their families.

In Paris, in December 2015, global leaders are expected to conclude negotiations for a new deal to tackle climate change and address its impacts. As a country that has already committed to take ambitious action on climate change, Scotland has a key role to play.

Scotland's targets make it a world leader in climate legislation with the most ambitious action being taken in the following commitments:

  • To cut Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2050, compared to 1990 levels with an interim target to reduce emissions by 42% by 2020.
  • Annual emission reduction targets which, from 2020, must be at least 3% per year.
  • At least 80% of each year's emission reductions must come from within Scotland, with a limit of only 20% coming from the use of international carbon credits.

Early annual targets have been missed, and we need your help to keep the pressure on to ensure these commitments are met and provide an ambitious good news story of climate action at the global level.

Call on Scotland's new First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, to deliver on Scotland's climate commitments.
