Hay Festival Oxfam Bookshop

The Oxfam Bookshop is now in its 6th year of opening its doors at Hay Festival. The shop is run by volunteers from Oxfam shops around the country and sells everything from fiction to philosophy, cookery to kids' titles.

Hay visitors have supported Oxfam both by buying books from our shop and by bringing gifts of books for us to sell. If you are travelling to the festival stop in and see how Oxfam bookshops are helping lift lives for good.

Our relationship with Hay Festival has generated more than £150,000 and more than 100,000 books have been donated on site, helping us to raise even more money through our high street shops and the Oxfam Online Shop.

The money we raised at Hay Festival last year could have paid for the construction of four night storage water tanks in Zimbabwe to feed an irrigation system and help to feed the farmers' families.

We are very excited about the programme because now this area will be green throughout the year. In the previous years the harvest has been very bad and having water here will chase away hunger. We will also be able to send our children to school after selling the crops we grow.

About Hay Festival

The festival is in its 26th year in Hay, a magical book town in the Welsh Black Mountains of the Brecon Beacons National Park. They also create festivals in ten cities around the world every year from Cartagena to Dhaka, and from Beirut to Nairobi.

Hay gathers people together to think about the world as it is and to imagine how it might be. It's a big conversation about discovery and intellectual adventure. The festival shares stories and ideas with great international writers and thinkers, film-makers, historians and novelists, philosophers, environmentalists, poets and scientists.

And at night we like to party with the greatest comedians and musicians. Hay also has a ten day festival for families and children with something for tots, teens and in-betweens. For the full line-up please visit
