Humanitarian Policy and Research Voluntary Intern (Oxfam House)

Context:

This is an important role contributing to Oxfam's global humanitarian campaigning, which works on specific crises such as Syria and South Sudan, and on Oxfam's new global campaign on refugees, displaced people and migration.

Our campaigning works closely with our humanitarian programmes around the world, to help ensure that fewer men, women and children will die or suffer illness, insecurity or deprivation as a result of conflict or disasters.

Ideally you will be able to offer up to three days a week for a period of six months, but this is negotiable for the right candidate.



Key responsibilities:

The role will involve desk-based research to help, depending on latest priorities, on some or all of these:

Skills and competencies:

  • Expertise in 1 or more relevant issues, such as humanitarian assistance or international relations, probably through a relevant degree
  • Experience of using the internet for research
  • Experience or aptitude for some of the research tools commonly used in Oxfam policy and campaigning:  http://policy-practice.oxfam.org.uk/our-approach/research/research-guidelines
  • Fluent written and oral English. One or more other languages is desirable, including among Arabic, Dar, French, Russian and Urdu.
  • In both writing and speaking, combining a succinct, accessible style with analytical rigour
  • Proactive and focussed on changing the world - not solely academic learning
