Shops Marketing (Oxfam House)


The Trading division is responsible for the network of approximately 650 Oxfam shops round the UK; this role will be working alongside the Marketing team who organise various national and local Marketing activities to support Oxfam shops.

The core project will be reviewing the Oxfam Fashion blog using analytics and feedback, coordination and presenting a recommendation to the marketing team of how to improve the blog going forward. The internship will then action those improvements through day-to-day management.

The role will also provide experience in the full retail marketing mix including POS, online, social media, PR and assisting with national projects. Within these projects will be an opportunity to learn the wider skills of a brand marketer.

Ideally you will volunteer up to 3 days per week for a minimum of 3 months, this can last up to 6 months.

Key responsibilities:

  • Copywriting: Write and edit content for Oxfam's fashion blog.
  • PR: with support from marketing team, comfortable in developing a database of magazines and researching potential for distress ad opportunities. Also, ability to summarise a detailed PR shop info pack, into a 1 pager for shops to use.
  • Content gathering: Collate content from our blogger network, Oxfam shops and Oxfam Online Shop to feature on our fashion blog. Also, opportunities to gather relevant content for the Oxfam Fashion twitter.
  • Planning: Working with the Marketing coordinator to plan & support marketing moments for Oxfam shops.
  • Evaluation: of the blog to build an assessment of how to improve the blog and to ensure implemented actions are successful.
  • Team Work: supporting the wider team on marketing projects.
  • Administration: ability to search a press cuttings database and extract the relevant information.

Skills and competencies:

  • Strong written and verbal communications: produces clear written communications and confident speaking with people face to face, online and via telephone.
  • Love of fashion blogs, possibly having written their own blog. A good understanding of the blogging community.
  • Interest in charity shops, fashion blogs and vintage clothing. Strong project planner, experience of working as a team and accurate record keeping
  • Understanding of online monitoring tools - web & social media analytics is desirable but this can be supplemented by internal training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding and experience of Oxfam's shops and an interest in Oxfam's work.
