Assistant Volunteer Recruitment Manager (Newport Pagnell)


This is an exciting time to be a part of Oxfam and its work to end poverty. Oxfam's has over 23,000 volunteers in its network of shops; they are integral to Oxfam's mission of achieving a just world without poverty. Our aspiration is to increase this number by recruiting from a much wider and diverse range of communities across the UK. We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals to volunteer in the Newport Pagnell area as Assistant Recruitment Managers. 

You will lead locally on:

  •  Creating and building on partnerships with our local communities in order to recruit a diverse pool of volunteers.
  •  Utilising social media and other approaches to reach a wider audience and to increase the number of volunteering enquiries and applicants.
  •  Promoting Oxfam's national recruitment campaigns in partnership with the Volunteer Resourcing Manager.
  •  Mentoring local volunteer recruiters in Oxfam shops in Newport Pagnell. 
  •  Creating realistic volunteer recruitment action plans.
  •  Holding information sessions for groups of prospective volunteer applicants.

Training and ongoing support will be provided. 

Ideally, you will be able to volunteer between 1 to 3 days per week. This internship will last between 3 to 9 months.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting Shop Managers with the completion of a volunteer needs analysis to identify and asses individual shop requirements for volunteers (specific shifts, targeted recruitment)
  • Identifying and building relationships with local businesses, job centres, schools, colleges, volunteer bureaus and other statutory and community  organisations to increase volunteer applications for our shops.
  • Identifying and advertising volunteer roles through multiple varied channels.
  • Proactively using social media to increase volunteer enquiries and applications
  • Organising and attending local recruitment events.
  • Working within Oxfam's key values of accountability, empowerment and inclusiveness.
  • Adhere to Oxfam's Safeguarding policies including the Child Protection Policy.

Skills and competencies:

  • Passionate and enthusiastic about volunteering and Oxfam's values
  • An understanding of the factors that motivate people to volunteer
  • Experience of volunteering or of working in the voluntary sector
  • Experience of working on own initiative and as part of a team
  • Ability to plan and organise own workload
  • Experience of communicating by email and confident with Microsoft Office
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Adaptable and flexible.
  • Willingness to undertake training as required
  • An enthusiastic and positive approach to supporting teams
  • The willingness to mentor other volunteers, sharing knowledge and monitoring recruitment plans.
