Assistant Manager (Henley)

Context:

We are looking for one or more voluntary interns who want to learn about the running of a successful and prestigious Oxfam Shop.

You will learn what the role of an Assistant Manager within Oxfam requires within a Shop environment. Taking on the responsibilities of the role you will be helping the shop reach its weekly income targets which in turn help Oxfam in its work to overcome suffering and poverty.

We wish to recruit interns who can commit to volunteering for up to three days a week for a period of three months.

Opening hours:

Monday to Saturday       09.00 - 17.00

Sunday                           10.30 - 16.00

Key responsibilities:

You will be learning about all aspects of the shop's processes so that ultimately you can take responsibility in the absence of the Shop Manager. 

This will include:

  • Volunteer management - developing the necessary leadership skills
  • Dealing with donations - learning about sorting and pricing goods (including researching potentially high value items); rotating stock so that the displays are always fresh.
  • Financial management - including learning about till operation and shop financial reconciliations.
  • Processing deliveries.
  • Being a role model for other members of the shop team by giving excellent customer service.

Skills and competencies:

  • The ability to develop the necessary team leadership skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Basic IT skills are necessary although specialist till training will be given.
  • An interest in donated goods.
  • An excellent attention to detail.
  • Confident and trustworthy in handling money.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and ability to work on own initiative.
