Online Shop Volunteer (Pangbourne)

Context:

Our shop sells a range of donated items, including clothes, accessories, books, music and home-ware. The shop team work hard to raise as much money as possible from every item that is donated. Our trained volunteers and staff sort and price donations to raise funds in support of Oxfam's international work to combat poverty. In addition to selling donations in the shop, we also list items to be sold on eBay and potentially also on the Oxfam online shop and this role is to manage these online sales.

Ideally, you will be able to volunteer approximately 6 to 8 hours per week in total, but split across 2 or 3 days.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identifying and leveraging opportunities to maximise online sales potential.
  • Using simple photography skills to visually showcase the item to the customer.
  • Utilising product knowledge to create accurate and appealing written content on the  web based listing tools.
  • Evaluating item value and setting prices effectively.
  • Adhering to set standards and providing excellent customer service within an e-commerce setting.

Skills and competencies:

  • Competent use of computers and internet.
  • Basic photography skills.
  • Good written communication skills.
  • Experience of working on own initiative and as part of a team.
  • Desire to learn or develop new skills in the field of online retail.

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • You will be helping Oxfam in its mission to build a just world without poverty.
  • Experience in how an online shop works.
  • Gain an insight into how Oxfam re-sell, re-use and recycle donated items.
  • Training, support and guidance from a dedicated and experienced Oxfam team.
  • Work with Oxfam to maximise the value of donations to help overcome poverty and suffering.
  • Lunch costs and reasonable local travel expenses can be reimbursed in line with Oxfam's policy.
