Sorting Assistant (Ambleside)

Context:

Oxfam's network of over 650 shops is run by 23,000 volunteers and shop managers.  Through the sale of donated goods and new products the shops contribute millions of pounds each year to help fund Oxfam's crucial work.

The success of the shops depends on the commitment of our volunteers, effective management and strong teams.  By working as a volunteer Oxfam Shop Assistant Manager you will be helping to provide that management. If you are looking for ways to develop your managerial skills this could be the role for you.  Also, if you already have skills and experience which you wish to use in a worthwhile voluntary capacity, we would welcome your application.

We are particularly interested in someone who can offer a minimum of 3 days a week and would be able to commit to volunteering for 6 months.


Key responsibilities:

  • Sorting and merchandising donated goods.
  • Pricing items within the shop price guidelines and policy.

Skills and competencies:

Previous relevant experience will be helpful but is not necessary as full training will be provided.  The important thing is that you have the enthusiasm and ability to learn.

You should be:

  • Reliable and able to work on your own initiative
  • Able  to work as part of a diverse team
  • A good communicator
  • Able to motivate self and others
  • Have good attention to detail.
