Sorting Room Assistant Volunteer - Toys and Homewares

Context:

Based in a beautiful part of London, just 2 minutes walk from Hyde Park, and close to the V&A and the Natural History Museum, the Gloucester Road Oxfam shop is one of the busiest shops in London. Our aim is to fight poverty all around the world by raising as much money as possible by selling the items, including toys and homewares, which are donated to us.

Sorting Room Assistant will help to sort incoming donations of toys and homewares to identify which items can be sold and which are unsuitable for sale. Other volunteers will then price the items and put them on the shop floor.

This opportunity will allow you to get retail experience and be a part of a great international team fighting poverty.

Key responsibilities:

  • Identifying which items can be sold and which are unsuitable for sale
  • Making the stock room more organised and tidy by reviewing the stock regularly
  • Making items look presentable and ready for being priced and displayed.

Skills and competencies:

No previous experience is needed, so don't be afraid to apply. If you are successful, full training will be given. So if you are like toys and/or homewares, want to get retail experience and want to help us to fight poverty, then this opportunity is for you.

Preferable skills are:

  • Ability to plan your own workload
  • Adaptable and flexible
  • Willingness to undertake training as and when required

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • Train and operate as a Sorting Room Assistant
  • Learn more about toys and homewares
  • Gain retail experience
  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Become a part of an international team committed to fighting poverty
  • Lunch costs and reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed in line with Oxfam policies
