Customer Service Assistant (Ashford)

The Ashford Oxfam Shop is a busy store where we aim to attract new supporters every day. This depends in part upon the quality of service they receive from our staff.  When making donations, our customers must know how appreciated they are; when making purchases, they need to be served efficiently.

Ideally, you'll be able to offer a minimum of 4 hours per week (but, this can be flexible upon your availability).

Key responsibilities:

  • Serving and dealing with the public.
  • Accurate cash and credit card handling (training will be given).
  • Accepting donations from donors.
  • Promoting Oxfam and its campaigns to customers.
  • Afternoon till assistants will also be asked to assist in cashing up.
  • Tidying / re-stocking / merchandising the shop as required.
  • Answering queries about Oxfam and products offered for sale.

Skills and competencies:

  • Friendly and helpful.
  • Ability to work with others and as part of a team.
  • Reliability in cash handling is essential. You may also need to  help with other responsibilities within the shop at busy times.
  • Confident at communicating with the public, and volunteers.
  • Assisting with customers in a prompt and effective manner.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to commit to covering a regular shift.
  • Ability to work independently when trained.

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • You will help Oxfam in its mission to achieve a just world without poverty.
  • Training and ongoing support provided.
  • A chance to meet new people and make new friends.
  • Gain valuable experience and new skills.
  • Positive working environment.
  • Lunch expenses and reasonable local travel costs can be reimbursed in line with Oxfam's policy.
