Gŵyl SWIGEN Festival

Date

22/10/2011

Description

Saturday 22nd October 2011 sees the inaugural all-day live music event organised & hosted by the Cardiff-based creative arts collective SWIGEN (South Wales Independent Gigs, Events & Networking) — or, 'Bubble' in Welsh. Gŵyl SWIGEN Festival, in aid of Shelter Cymru & Oxjam Cardiff, will take place in the beautiful Grade II listed Ebenezer Chapel, situated on Charles Street in the heart of Cardiff (info & map), & will showcase 18 Welsh or Wales-based artists/bands performing on 2 stages. The main-stage will feature a delightfully eclectic line up of laptop pop, folktronica, chillwave, burnt-out indie pop, Broadway-style indie-folk, psychedelic folk rock, avant garde noiseniks & doom rock. The second stage will feature solo & acoustic artists, as well as open mic slots (with a small donation) for any local musicians who'd like to perform throughout the day. Fundraising will take place in the form of the cover charge, a raffle for a very special prize, donations to sanctioned collectors, & through sales of hot/cold food & beverages. In addition to fundraising on behalf of Shelter Cymru & Oxjam Cardiff, Gŵyl SWIGEN Festival will help raise awareness of & grant exposure to a small cross-section of those extremely talented & deserving artists/bands who, for one reason or another, have found themselves sidelined or simply missed by the major music organisations, events & promoters across Wales. All musical acts, organisers, venue owners & event staff are donating their time to a good cause in order to produce a day of excellent live music entertainment. All funds raised will be donated to the charitable partners*. The 2011 inaugural Gŵyl SWIGEN Festival, Saturday October 22nd, brings 18 different Welsh/Wales-based artists/bands to Cardiff's Ebenezer Chapel, Charles Street. Please visit www.swigen.co.uk for complete line-up & stage times. Doors = Midday – 11pm (last band). Admission = £6 (waged), £5 (unwaged / advance / discount). Audience members may leave & re-enter the venue as often as they please until curfew @ 10pm.
