History
The first Oxjam festival took place in October 2006. Since then almost 40,000 musicians have played to over 875,000 people at around 3,500 Oxjam events nationwide. These diverse local music events have ranged from the amazing multi-venue one-wristband-gives-access-to-all Oxjam Takeovers, to a sponsored busk on top of Ben Nevis, and everything in between.
Oxjam has raised over £1.75 million in total for
Oxfam: enough to buy 15,000 emergency shelters; 70,000 goats or 1050 classrooms.Celebrity supporters including Jarvis Cocker, Hot Chip, Fatboy Slim, Basement Jaxx, Editors, Damon Albarn and others have performed intimate gigs in an Oxfam shop to launch the festival. Media and industry partners include LiveNation, the O2 Academy venues, WeGotTickets, Xfm, Gigwise, Last.fm and Festival Republic.
However, at its heart Oxjam is a grassroots festival, created by a network of music lovers stretching from Penzance to Fort William. Oxjam is thousands of volunteers and hundreds of thousands of fans making music and fighting poverty in their local communities.
After six successful years, Oxjam is now the UK’s biggest festival line-up and 2012 is set to be bigger and better than ever!
