The Oxjam Takeover
In 2009 we introduced the Oxjam Takeover. These amazing multi-venue one-wristband-gives-access-to-all events (think Camden Crawl) have become the showcase of the year for local emerging talent. .
Over the past three years, we have had 86 Takeover events all over the UK, using more than 500 venues, with more than 13,500 artists performing. Tens of thousands of people have now been to an Oxjam Takeover, and they've raised £325,000 for Oxfam.
In October 2011 33 Takeover events entertained punters across the country, from Aberdeen to Bournemouth and from Cardiff to Newcastle. All of them were organised by our wonderful Takeover teams.
Oxjam Takeovers are organised by groups of volunteers, led by a Takeover Manager. Takeover Managers are appointed by the central Oxjam team. They are selected for their knowledge of and love for their local music scene, their experience of live music events, their ability to lead a team, and their commitment to raising as much money as possible for Oxfam. In other words, they know what they're doing. They then, in turn, recruit a core team to help them pull the event together - this team includes a Fundraising Coordinator, a Marketing Coordinator and a Production Coordinator. Takeover Managers are usually recruited in February-March. Their teams are usually recruited in April-May. If you're signed up on the website, you'll hear about these opportunities as and when they arise.
