How to get a place in the Virgin London Marathon

There are 2 ways you can Run for Oxfam in the Virgin London Marathon:

1. Use your own place

The London Marathon ballot has now closed and you will find out   in October if you have been successful with your application.

If you are one of the lucky ones you can still be part of the Oxfam team. Just let us know and you will receive all the perks of running with Oxfam whilst making a difference in the lives of thousands of people living in poverty around the world.

2. Apply for an Oxfam charity place

  • Oxfam place entry fee: £100
  • Oxfam charity place minimum fundraising pledge: £2000

We receive lots of applications for our Oxfam charity places, so please give a good indication of how you will reach your £2000 pledge in your application.

We'll be in touch by October to let you know the outcome of your application. Good luck!

Why run the 2012 Virgin London Marathon with the Oxfam Team?

You'll get outstanding support

We'll support you past the finish line. Whether you run with us using one of our charity places or you use your own place, we'll reward your amazing efforts with:

  • On the day support - We'll give you bags of moral support throughout the race. We'll meet you beforehand and cheer you on during the event at lots of cheering points dotted across the course.
  • Finish line recovery reception - We'll meet you at the finish and guide you to your recovery reception. It's very close to the finish and the best place to meet your friends and family. A recovery meal and massage awaits you alongside cheers and thanks for your amazing effort!
  • Training sessions with professional runners - We hold a unique marathon preparation session in November with Liz and Martin Yelling to help you with training, fundraising and motivation.
  • An Oxfam running vest - with iron on letters so that cheerers can see your name!
  • A running pack - full of fantastic fundraising materials and advice
  • Supportive phone calls - to make sure you're getting everything you need
  • Regular advice - via our newsletters to help you with all your training, nutrition and fundraising
  • Running Team support line - we’ll be there if you ever need a chat about your training or fundraising
  • Timely email responses - for any questions you might have
  • Oxfam runners Facebook group - to share thoughts and advice
  • A dedicated support team - happy to help with anything you need

You'll change lives

The money our runners raise will provide exactly what poor people have asked for to succeed. It means people will get the training, skills and support they need to develop their small businesses and transform their lives.

It means families earning a decent living. More children in school. Dignity. Independence. And financial security for future generations.

Thank you to our 2011 Official Charity team

We had our biggest team ever taking part in the 2011 race. As official charity, we had hundreds of runners raising money for Oxfam, and we'd like to say a big thank you to all of them.

If you'd like to visit any of their fundraising pages to see their stories and donate to their efforts, take a look at the list of all our runners to see every single one of our amazing team members.
