Student and Community Engagement Campaigner (Bristol)

Context:

Our purpose is to work together to overcome poverty and suffering.

As an integral member of the activism team, you will have a varied role - including anything from supporting our existing activists to researching new opportunities within the region. 

This internship is a great opportunity for someone looking to move in to campaigning and volunteer management as a career.

Frequency: 3 days a week plus some evening and weekend work as and when needed.

2 days a week from week beginning 19TH August 2013 to 20th February 2013.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage on-line and in person communications with student campaign groups, with a particular focus on the Behind the Brands campaign.
  • Plan and run campaigns projects with students at key universities in order to foster a high level of engagement and eventual autonomy. Attend meetings with student groups where appropriate.
  • Research and collate relevant campaigns information and present it in an inspiring and interesting fashion for student groups, communicating across different online and social networking media, including the monthly newsletter.
  • Establish links with regional community groups and inspire them to get involved with Oxfam's campaigns and organise relevant events.
  • Support the delivery of events and training programmes associated with the overall campaigns programme, including administrative duties such as managing the supporter database.

Skills and competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written - the ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, works well in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to understand complex information and to present in an easily communicable format.
  • Effectively manages own time and workload.
  • Initiative to come up with creative solutions to problems.
  • Passion to get involved in Oxfam's campaigns.
  • A knowledge of and commitment to Oxfam's aims.
  • Project management (Desirable).
