Market Research Assistant (Oxford)


The Market Insight department is an in-house market research team which forms part of Oxfam's Communications Division. Our purpose is to bring Oxfam closer to key audiences in order to increase our impact on poverty and suffering. We carry out and manage a wide range of market research, which incorporates both qualitative methods, such as focus groups and interviews, and quantitative methods, including surveys and statistical analysis.

We are looking for a Market Research Assistant to support us in this work for six months. The role will involve working on a variety of projects and will give exposure to a range of research methods and diverse topics pertaining to Oxfam's work. This will likely include attitudes to poverty, aid, the environment, and consumer trends.

You should be able to work for 3 days a week.

Key responsibilities:

  • Contribute to primary and secondary research projects, including collecting and analysing data and helping to draw out insights.
  • Synthesising secondary data to build accurate narratives in response to research questions.
  • Building and testing surveys using an online tool.
  • Assisting with the organisation and implementation of qualitative research as required.
  • Using online sources to gather and catalogue intelligence on external consumer trends, charity sector trends and communications activities of charities and companies.

Skills and competencies:

  • A strong interest in understanding what drives people's attitudes and behaviours.
  • Ideally, an interest in market research and international development.
  • The initiative and tenacity to solve problems with minimal supervision.
  • An analytical mindset with good attention to detail.
  • The ability to accurately interpret numerical information.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • IT literacy: competent in Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines
