Trading Internal Communications Assistant (Oxford)

Context:

Oxfam's network of 680 shops extends from Inverness to the Channel Islands. The role of the Internal Communications Team is to promote good communication between shop teams and business support teams based in Oxford and elsewhere. Our shop teams need to know whether coat hangers are out of stock and also understand the plight of Syrian refugees, so it's an unusual communications challenge!

Frequency: 1-2 days a week.


Key responsibilities:

  • Assist in producing weekly information bulletins.
  • Administrative tasks such as postal mailings and informing selected shops about local fundraising initiatives.
  • Support the editor of Oxfam's shop magazine through brainstorming ideas for each issue, carrying out interviews, taking photographs, compiling content. 
  • Assist in communicating emergency appeals to shops.
  • Helping run regular divisional meetings.

Skills and competencies:

  • Excellent standard of written English.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Interpersonal skills and interest in human stories.
  • Willingness to undertake some UK travel to Oxfam shops/offices(expenses paid).
  • Experience of volunteering in an Oxfam shop is an advantage but not essential. Must be willing to spend at least a day volunteering in a shop as part of induction.
  • Interest in our charity retail business
  • Ability to take good quality photographs of people (camera can be supplied).

  • Some contact with Oxfam's wider work, e.g. attending meetings about Oxfam's current emergency relief work.

  • Opportunity to use and develop writing and research skills.
  • Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed in line with Oxfam's volunteering policy where agreed.
