Volunteer Recruitment Manager (Batley, West Yorkshire)

Oxfam's Northern Logistics Centre in Batley is a unique recycling facility, currently sorting 80 tonnes of textiles a week in order to maximise income from donations. This involves various teams at the site who transport, sort, sell and provide office support for these teams.

The Batley site also lists and sells items online (similar to eBay), this is called the Online Hub. Since April the Online Hub has built a team of 17 volunteers, but is aiming to grow the team to over 70 volunteers by the end of 2014.

There are also voluntary opportunities in the support offices at Batley which would need to be recruited for.

Because of this, an exciting voluntary opportunity has become available for a Volunteer Recruitment Manager, who will have the opportunity to create, implement and recruit for a number of unique and diverse volunteer roles. The role will also need you to interact and network with the local community in Batley so that the site has good community links for volunteer recruitment.

You will gain valuable experience, learn new skills and contribute towards Oxfam's goal of overcoming poverty and suffering.

Frequency: Approx 12-18 hours per week, flexible shifts.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create new role profiles for all the volunteering opportunities within the hub.
  • Research, contact and meet with key local organisations who can aid the Hub's volunteer recruitment strategy.
  • Maintain and create a larger media presence for the Online hub.
  • Recruit and manage a volunteer recruitment administrator.
  • Give regular tours of the online hub to promote the volunteering opportunity to perspective volunteers.

Skills and competencies:

  • Excellent people and communication skills.
  • Confident when working independently, but know when to look for support.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • A willingness to learn to Oxfam's volunteer recruitment process.
  • Experience of volunteer recruitment is not essential.

What this role can offer the volunteer:

  • Opportunity to learn about Oxfam's online retail and logistics operations.
  • Input into a new, exciting and innovative project to recruit volunteers into a variety of roles.
  • Opportunity to gain new skills within an empowered environment.
  • A chance to meet and work with a variety of volunteers and community organisations.
  • The opportunity to manage a volunteer recruitment administrator.
  • A reference is available upon completion.
  • Reasonable local travel and lunch expenses reimbursed in line with our expenses policy.
