Retail assistant – book department (Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes)


Working in the busy Stony Stratford shop, you will be engaged in sorting pricing and merchandising the book donations and many other shop responsibilities.

We are looking for someone who can offer at least one 4-hour shift per week on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.  Saturday shifts may be possible.  Ideally you should be able to work for at least two months, but of course we hope you will want to stay longer.

Key responsibilities:

  • Sorting books in line with the standards required for the shop.
  • Pricing books using Oxfam's book sorting guidelines.
  • Cleaning and preparing books for sale in the shop.
  • Dealing with deliveries and storing books safely.
  • Culling books as required.
  • May be needed to help gather stock from other shops.

Skills and competencies:

  • An interest in books.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Reliability and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
