Volunteer Internal Auditor (Various Locations)

Context:

Can you work on a standalone basis, plan your own workload at a time to suit yourself, walk into an Oxfam shop unannounced, complete a shop audit to a good standard, whilst working professionally with the local shop team. If so, read on :

We are looking for well motivated individuals :

  • To liaise with shop and area managers to ensure effective independent review of all major risks of the shop on a regular basis, with interim audits as needed
  • To plan, organise and carry out an audit plan
  • To report detailed findings of the audit to the UK Audit Manager
  • To make recommendations on the systems and procedures being reviewed.
  • To review and report on the accuracy, timeliness and relevance of the financial and other information that is provided for management

Frequency: Totally flexible as commitment would be for approx 25 days over the year ( minimum 10 audits).

Locations: South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire, West Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Humberside, North Yorkshire, East Lancashire, North and West London & Hampshire.


Key responsibilities:

  • Report whether internal control procedures are being adhered to with reference to security, cash handling, accounts and stock.
  • Report whether till operation practises comply with approved procedures.
  • Verify that financial returns are properly completed and submitted on time.
  • Verify that specific health and safety matters are complied with.
  • Review the adequacy of shop security arrangements.
  • Make recommendations for improvement to control within the shop.
  • Carry out other tasks which may be requested by the UK Audit Manager.

Skills and competencies:

  • An ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • An ability to establish and retain effective working relationships with staff and volunteers and to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • An ability to work unsupervised
  • An ability to travel within an agreed area given to the volunteer internal auditor
  • An understanding of general business/management practices
  • A recognised professional qualification is not essential to this role but please state if you are qualified in any of the below:
  • CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)
  • ACCA ( Association of Certified Chartered Accountants)
  • CIPFA (Public Finance Accountant)
  • IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors)
  • ACIB (Chartered Institute of Bankers)
  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants
