Festival organisers and an increasing number of local licensing authorities require us to provide event stewards who are trained to a minimum standard. Because of this requirement, it is now compulsory for all first- time Oxfam stewards and previous Oxfam volunteers who’ve not attended an Oxfam training session over the last four years to attend one this year.
Dates for these sessions are available on the application form. Training is held in various locations around the country. So please book onto a training session when you complete your application if you have not been trained before or last attended training in 2008 or before.
Please make sure you book yourself onto a training session that is before your first festival, and that you can make arrangements to get to and from the training session.
As we have tried to provide training sessions around the country, we hope that you will be able to attend one of the sessions. However we do not expect you to travel an unrealistic distance from your home to attend training. For example, if you live in Manchester and those sessions are full, please don’t book onto the Bristol session, but select the relevant option to say you can’t attend and someone from the Oxfam Festivals Office will get in touch with you about this. Please be aware your stewarding place is at risk until you are confirmed as being booked onto a session.
Supervisor training is a one-day conference this year. It does not cover the basics of stewarding or replace stewards training and you should only enquire about booking this if you are applying to supervise. If you book the supervisor conference, we expect you to have up to date steward training too (which means that you attended steward training in, 2009, 2010 or 2011, or that you have booked onto a session for 2012).
For more information about the Supervisor training please see the questions at the end of this section.
