Download Festival

What to expect

"It's a rock institution and a whole lot of fun!"

Hannah Webster, Download Volunteer Steward

Download Festival. It's a rock institution. And a whole lot of fun. Now in its 9th year, Britain's second largest festival has carried on the tradition that Monster's of Rock left behind in the nineties and, guess what, it has one of the friendliest crowds you could ever hope to steward. They're alternative & wear a lot of black, but they've all got hearts of gold, are terribly nice to us stewards and make it a super fun festival to be a part of.

Aside from the heavy rock soundtrack and leather clad crowd, another major draw for Download is it's venue. Donnington Park. Yes...the race track. Located centrally within the UK just off the M1 and M42 where Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire meet, Download is one of the easiest UK festivals to reach. Plus, you get to camp next to the track - in 2010 our small team of stewards set up home under a canopy of trees in the infield zone and operations were run from the pit lane. What's not to like?

Oxfam first got involved with Download in 2010 where we were the first Brits to use a revolutionary Dutch electronic wrist banding technique. The other crews welcomed us openly, the crowd gave us no trouble and everyone had a whale of a time. So if you're partial to a bit of metal and fancy helping Oxfam get even more involved in this rockest of rock festivals, come join us at Download this year. Tattoos not compulsory.
