Latitude Festival

What to expect

"The crowd is around twenty-five thousand laid back, lovely people"

Mark Crossfield, Latitude Volunteer Steward

Ah, how we love Latitude. Between the pastel coloured sheep, the 'Oxfam Pixie in the woods' stewarding position, and the spectacular location, the festival is set in a beautiful country park, with a relaxed family friendly feel to it.

As the personal project of Melvin Benn, chief of Festival Republic, its focus is on literature, theatre and poetry, as well as the usual comedy (which pulls some big names) and music. Although there's not as much focus on the music as at other festivals, there's still plenty to see.

Latitude is still growing, building its unique identity and a loyal following. The food is fantastic, and a day trip to the nearby seaside is highly recommended. You can expect a fairly small site, with an arena that's easy to get around, separated from the camping by a picturesque lake and a natural barrier of woodland, containing two magical dance stages.

The crowd is around twenty-five thousand laid back, lovely people, looking for as chilled a time as we are. It is one of the friendliest festival crowds to steward, and if you get selected as a woodland pixie steward, it's not every day you're asked to keep an eye on the lake or dress as a pixie!

Latitude has a generous budget, and it's easy to see where the money has been spent. There are art installations everywhere, and ad hoc performance art. If you have younger children, there's an area dedicated to them at one end of the lake, where you can keep them entertained with a great range of activities.
