What is it all for?
Helping people out of poverty
Why walk 100km? Why put yourself through the hardest challenge you’ll ever attempt?
By the time you’ve finished Trailtrekker 2012 you will have achieved much more than a fantastic feat of physical endurance.
In 2011, Trailtrekker teams raised over £380,000 to help people in poverty build a better life.
Oxfam
Oxfam is a global movement of people passionate about ending poverty.
Funds raised through Trailtrekker 2012 are especially valuable to Oxfam as they are not tied to a particular project. This allows Oxfam to use the funds where they are needed most – such as the East Africa food crisis, affecting over 13 million people.
East Africa Food Crisis
Rains failed in 2010 and 2011, pushing up food prices and causing millions of small farmers and nomads to lose their livelihoods. As a result, 13 million people across the Horn of Africa were facing desperate food and water shortages by July 2011. A famine was officially declared by the UN in parts of Somalia.
Oxfam’s work is reaching 2.9 million people in Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya with the food, cash, water and basic sanitation they desperately need.

Haiti Earthquake
