Oxfam in Yemen

Children in Yemen collecting water for their families.

Yemen's forgotten war has killed thousands of people, forced more than 3 million to flee the fighting, and left more than half the country without enough to eat. Since July 2015 Oxfam has been on the ground helping Yemenis by supplying more than 900,000 people with water, food vouchers and help to earn a living. Oxfam aims to reach 1.2 million people in Yemen by the end of the year.

Deadly clashes and air strikes in Yemen have forced more than 3.1 million people to flee their homes. More than 6,700 people have been killed and another 33,000 injured since March 2015. Almost 13 million people are in desperate need of lifesaving aid. Many families lack access to food and water - they're one step away from famine.

Right now, Oxfam is delivering clean water to people in the north and south of the country. We've reached more than 900,000 people with water, food vouchers, hygiene kits and other essential aid. We urgently need to reach more people - and we can't do it without you.

From our staff

Duoi Ampilan, Humanitarian Support Personnel, Yemen

As a humanitarian aid worker, I should not be much affected by the ugly scenes and deteriorating conditions of people, but I am just an ordinary human being equipped with feelings and emotions like anyone else.

The news and reports about starving children are real. Death is imminent to many of these young children especially if this situation extends for more months. Many hospitals have closed. The ones operating are lacking facilities and medicines.

Amidst all these challenges, we are trying to deliver our activities with the help of the local volunteers. The national staff members are instrumental in our programmes. In fact, they are the ones moving heaven and earth when it comes to reaching the beneficiaries especially in the far flung communities.
