One of the many fantastic events held for Oxfam on International Women's Day 2011 was a cocktail evening in Oxford hosted by Pippa Micklem.

"Organising an event for IWD was the easiest fundraiser I've ever done!"

"We managed to persuade a cocktail bar in town to let us have their upstairs area for free, and they put on some great drinks deals especially for the night! Making money was easy, we just went around with an Oxfam bucket and did some really simple things like a pool competition and a raffle. We asked people to wear something pink to get in the spirit of celebrating women around the world."

"It was such a fun night without any hassle - just a great excuse to get everyone together! It was a brilliant feeling to know that everything we raised would be changing the lives of women through Oxfam projects. I can't wait to organise something for IWD next year!"

The £200 Pippa raised is enough to buy 2 sewing machines for women in Liberia so that they can set up their own tailoring business.

Liz Sim hosted a fabulous gala evening with music from Pop Idol winner Michelle McManus, cookery and dance demos, market stalls and pampering sessions!

“It was so fun and easy organising this fundraising gala. It was a great opportunity for women to get together and have fun. The event raised over £1500 from ticket sales and shopping on the night. I’m already planning a bigger and better event for 2012!” Liz Sim, Scotland.

Liz's event raised over £1500, which has enabled Oxfam to set up a woman's co-operative in Ethiopia.

Sue Teire came up with a brilliant idea for a fundraising event for Oxfam on International Women's Day 2011. She hosted a 'soup and pudding' party for a group of her friends. Everyone brought along a soup or a pudding, paid an entry fee and then all tucked into the delicious homemade goods!

Her event raised £370 which will help save thousands of lives by providing 8 trained midwifes in Ghana.
