Millions of people in the UK don't have enough money to live on. Oxfam believes that in a rich country this is completely unacceptable. We want to know what you think about the issues that affect people in the UK. We have set up a Facebook group End UK Poverty and Inequality Now, to provide a space for you to voice your opinions and for you to share ideas about how to tackle poverty and inequality.

The focus of Oxfam's work on poverty in the UK is ensuring that everyone in the UK has a secure income which gives them enough money to live on. We also tackle the discrimination which makes women, ethnic minority groups and others more vulnerable to poverty. And we work on public attitudes to ensure that people experiencing poverty are treated with dignity and respect.

Poverty is not just about a lack of money. People experiencing poverty have fewer choices in life, have less chance of getting a good education or a job that pays enough to live on, and it's no coincidence that poor communities are in poorer health than other groups.

Last week a group of 35 young people, aged 18-25, travelled from all over the country to learn key campaigning skills at the five-day residential CHANGE course, which took place at the YHA in Bristol.

After a week of intensive learning, cramming in everything there is to know about Oxfam campaigns, we let them loose on the streets of Bristol for a campaign stunt.

Dressed as runners and accompanied by the Gordon Brown 'big head' they did eight laps of Bristol's millennium square (each lap representing one of the Millennium Development Goals set in 2000 to help end poverty by 2015). They also handed a signed letter to Roger Berry, Kingswood MP, asking the Prime Minister to 'Go further on fighting poverty, Go for a just and fair foreign policy and Go faster on climate change'.

After their run they got to practise their face-to-face campaigning skills by asking the public to sign a petition on climate change.

The new generation of CHANGE are a fantastic bunch and we are expecting great things.

Have you joined the social networking revolution yet? Whether you love it or loathe it, there's no denying that the popularity of social networking is on the rise. And with an estimated 34 million users world wide on Facebook alone, it doesn't look to be slowing any time soon.

If you're a still stranger to the phenomenon, a social network is like an online community where you can share your opinions, experiences and just about anything else with others on the Internet.

Here at Oxfam we've been using social networking to spread the news about our campaigns and to help campaigners get in touch with each other and share ideas about what they've been up to.

Not convinced? Need some proof that campaigning through social networking websites works? Well just this week HSBC reversed its decision to take away interest-free overdrafts for students accounts after graduates expressed their outrage on the pages of Facebook.

So, if you haven't done so already, why not join Oxfam's Facebook Group or Oxfam MySpace Page and find out how others have been supporting our campaign to tell Gordon Brown to go further on fighting poverty. Join up and you can submit us your photos and videos of how you've been campaigning.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) are running a public consultation on UK Foreign Policy. This follows a Chatham House speech that David Miliband made.

It is open till mid-September, and discussions with FCO contacts would suggest that the responses would be taken fairly seriously.

This is a great opportunity for us to make our mark on this consultation. Do please add your comments. Some areas to think about when posting are below.

http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1183544769804

To reaffirm that the international Arms Trade Treaty is really important, to be positive about UK leadership on this so far, and to request that they keep this as a priority so that a treaty becomes a reality by 2010.

To ensure a comprehensive a ban on Cluster bombs, indiscriminate weapons that cause civilian casualties and render land unusable

To push the government on the need to establish the UK's commitment to combating Climate Change. The UK must contribute its fair share to help developing countries adapt to the effects of climate change (and this money should be in addition to existing aid commitments.)

Championing the basic rights of health care and education for everyone by increasing foreign aid to 0.7% of national income by 2010, and spending more of it on health care and education.
