Knitters needed again, but this time it's a stitch up
8 December 2008
Back in September we handed in a giant petition - calling for better maternal care in poor countries - to the UK Government. It was petition with a difference, as it was crafted from 14,000 squares, all knitted by Oxfam supporters from around the UK.
As we wrote at the time of the hand-in, it wasn't possible to assemble the entire blanket, as single-handedly stitching together all those squares would have taken more time than we'd dare to imagine. But as we're now hoping to put the blanket - or lots of smaller sections of it - on show around the country, we're looking for your help (and your enthusiasm) once more.
We're looking for individuals, groups, knitting-circles (and any other knitters interested in helping), willing to turn knitting needles against poverty once again, by helping stitch the individual squares into larger blankets.
The finished blankets will then be put on display at galleries, exhibitions, town halls, and other public places - as part of our campaign to raise awareness of the lack of decent maternal care in poor countries - or sold in Oxfam shops or at festivals to raise cash for Oxfam's work to overcome poverty.
If you're interested in helping out then please contact Alice - at Oxfam's Leeds office - using the details below:
Contact Alice Delemare: email adelemare@oxfam.org.uk or phone 0113 394 4293
