Polar bears demand action on climate change
13 November 2007
Polar bears were seen around Parliament Square last week when The Queen delivered her speech to Parliament. They were carrying placards for the I Count campaign, asking for carbon emissions to be reduced by 80% by 2050 and not the 60% that has been proposed for the Climate Change Bill.
When voted through parliament early next year, this will be an historical Bill making the UK the first country to put carbon emissions reduction targets into law. However, the amount proposed is simply not enough.
The polar bears were there to remind us all that as much as animals under threat, the human impact of climate change is profound. The UK government needs to be brave in its environmental policies or else future politicians will be just as endangered a species as the polar bears are today.

Our first commitment is to Stop Climate Chaos, who aren't organising a big mobilisation this year. Our priority is to work with and support actions run by SCC.
