Climate change and poverty

Oxfam at Bali and out there in the media

11 December 2007

ah_april04.jpgIt's just over a week into the Bali climate change conference. Oxfam policy adviser Antonio Hill (pictured right) gives his take on how things are progressing in the UK Daily Telegraph. He is encouraged by a first week of negotiations characterised by an increased willingness to help vulnerable people in the poorest countries adapt to climate impacts.

Oxfam also gets a number of mentions in Financial Times journalist John Aglionby's entertaining Bali blog (requires free subscription), including the bizarre fact that rich countries have so far paid only less to the UN fund to help the poorest countries adapt climate change than the USA spends on suntan lotion each month. He also covers the unveiling by our climate change researcher Kate Raworth of this graph comparing emissions and GDP of rich and poor countries.

Elsewhere, Oxfam GB's director Barbara Stocking wrote in the Guardian on rich countries' responsibility to help poor countries adapt to climate change.

You can read daily updates on Oxfam's campaigning at Bali on the Oxfam International blog.
