Howells School Students from Howells School Llandaf, have joined Oxfam Cymru's campaign to urge world leaders to prioritise action on climate change, aid and healthcare at this weeks G8 Summit in Japan.

Four sixth form students At Howells School, Llandaf will be in Japan this week attending the J8 - the junior global summit which is taking place at the same time as the G8 Summit . They will take Oxfam Cymru's messages with them when they represent the UK at the meeting.

Oxfam Cymru's Wish Upon a Star campaign calls for continued action on overseas aid, global healthcare and tackling climate change. The first day of the summit falls on the Japanese festival Tanabata. On this day, people tie written wishes to bamboo trees, and Oxfam Cymru are asking people across Wales to send a Tanabata wish to world leaders.

Before they went off to the land of the rising sun the young campaigners gathered support on home turf and got the whole school signed up to the campaign.

Jasper Warner said: "It's great to team up with Oxfam Cymru - the Action Now Campaign is exactly what we are about - making sure that the world leaders deliver exactly what they promised three years ago.. It's time they delivered.''

Hannah Cockley added, ""We want the world the world's eight most powerful leaders to hear a clear message from Wales - that they must sign up to a strong global deal to drastically cut carbon emissions. They must also provide funds to support poor countries in adapting to climate change.

Rose Stuart said, "We are the future and if today's world leaders don't act on their promises now, we'll be the ones picking up the pieces in twenty years time."

Harry Brooks said, "More young people in Wales should think a bit more about what kind of world we'll be living when we're older, and take action to make sure it's the kind of planet we ant it to be."

Steve Brooks, Acting Head of Oxfam Cymru said: "It's fantastic that young people from Cardiff are supporting our Wish Upon a Star campaign - we need action now from the world's richest countries on aid, health and climate change, not promises for a distant future."
