Don't consume, transume

Could transumption be the answer to our consumerist ways? The idea is this: rather than buy a product, you rent it (or, in effect, buy the service rather than the product itself). This means the product always belongs to the manufacturer, so the pressure is on them to make more sustainable stuff which can be reused, changed, or taken apart and built up again. Sounds good by us.
