Our volunteer Local Events Campaign Co-ordinator for London, Jennifer Crago, has been heading up teams of intrepid volunteer campaigners at all kinds of exciting events in our capital city, all giving their time and working together to bring our Fair Deal campaign, bringing the totally number of people who’ve called for a Fair Deal on climate change to over 15,000. Crikey.
Most recently, Jennifer and her team pitched up at Field Day in London, and here’s what she had to say:
“Eight of Oxfam’s most energetic Outreachers had the fantastic opportunity to tell the people of East London about our Climate Change ‘Fair Deal’ campaign at Field Day in London last weekend, and boy did we have fun while doing it!!
Alongside 5 stages of music, our balloon-filled tent was located in the Village Green area, and with our FAIR DEAL tattoo stamping, some blue face painting and a lot of petition signing I am positive that we added to the true spirit of the ‘village fair’ vibe. As usual festival goers were eager to support Oxfam’s campaign asking the government to support poor communities suffering from the effects of climate change. Only halfway through the summer festival season and no-one should have any doubt that the UK public expects our leaders to take action and play its part in delivering a fair deal!
Outreacher Ronel’s tattoo of Ghandi’s “be the change we wish to see in the world” was truly lived by all the team last Saturday. However, the highlight of the event for this campaigner (other than our enourmous success in gaining sign ups) was at the Cabaret tent where we had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see an Elvis impersonating hula hooper…”
Good old London, eh? Be the change you want to see in the world, give up a couple of hours of your time to become an Event Campaigner with Oxfam, you never know where it’ll take you!
