What connects Polar Bears in Birmingham, Oxfam supporters and people in over 100 countries? The title of this blog should have been a bit of a clue. It was the Global Wake UP Call day of action.
All over the world people called their leader to demand that they start working towards a fair, safe and binding deal at the UN Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen this December. And Oxfam supporters were a big part of this global event.
And, as if by pure chance, as people up and down the country prepared to gather in towns and cities to give the PM a Wake Up Call, Gordon Brown’s office announced that he would be attending the summit.
We’re not one’s to boast but we know that the thousands of Oxfam supporters who took the time to email and tell him to attend the most important summit ever, had an impact in getting him to change his mind. It was a cool day but we won’t be happy until a fair and safe deal is done.
Have a look at the videos below. Some Polar Bears - I assume they were tourists (or lost) - sample the delights of Birmingham. And Gordon Brown takes a phone call from one of the activists that got in touch. We’re still waiting for the numbers from Downing Street but over 90 people commented on our blog. We’ll let you know when we get a figure. Of course you can always phone back and ask.

Prime minister, please keep pushing, for us and our world,
October 3rd, 2009 at 4:34 amwe can never give up to do so would mean we are too selfish and have no love left for eachother or our beautiful world. So go to Copenhagen and represent!
Brilliant video and good to see that Gordon Brown is going to Copenhagen! It just shows what an ordinary person can do if so motivated. Oxfam rules o,k?!!!
