Statement from Oxfam International on situation in Honduras:
Oxfam International condemns the violence and repression that, from June 28th, has been registered by the media and reports from independent institutions that have visited Honduras.Nothing justifies the human and constitutional rights violations by the de facto government.
There is an additional impact caused by the breakdown of democracy on economic stability, particularly on the nation’s poorest.
Dialogue is the only solution to this conflict, however the entrenched, opposing positions are driving a deepening social and political crisis in the country.
Consequently, we are convinced that to find a solution it is necessary to establish a dialogue that involves the voice of the whole Honduran population.
At the same time, the international community must show a bigger, more forceful approach to encourage Honduras back to democracy.
