On Friday 13th November many of our committed hitchhikers from Liverpool University, travelled over to Manchester in search of the Mancunian hitchhikers, Chris Davies MEP and lots of blue face paint.
After everyone got settled in and had their face paint on, Chris sat down and spoke to us about Copenhagen, his role in the process and what he thinks will come out of the Conference in December.
Everyone got the chance to ask Chris the questions that had been burning inside of them ever since they decided to take part on the hitchhike; it was a lively and interesting debate. Chris mostly answered all of the questions that were thrown at him and we encouraged him to go back to the European Union and discuss the issue of how many flights each MEP takes a week to go to Brussels and propose limiting the flights, using teleconferencing instead. A good result wouldn’t you say?
Chris also encouraged all of us hitchhikers to make links with students at Universities across Europe and the rest of the world, so we can raise awareness about the Climate Charge and to see what other students are doing to raise awareness around Climate Change.
Then we let Chris go and headed off in the rain around several bars in Manchester to raise money and awareness for Climate adaptation projects in Bangladesh and Nepal, we received a sodden but jolly crowd and managed to raise..
It’s full speed ahead now for Copenhagen with a stop off at THE WAVE before hand and we are all getting very excited, we have put ourselves into teams and have given ourselves team names. Our focus for the next few weeks is strengthening the awareness around the hitch by using the media, so look out for us in your local paper or even on the TV!
We are also holding fundraising events for the hitch, which included an Oxfam Band night at Hannah’s Bar, Liverpool on the 26th November, so join us if you can and if not how about showing you support by visiting our justgiving page and donating.
Look out for us on the road in December and please give us a lift if you can.
