Oxjam launch comes with 'Belles' on
15 October 2007
Belle and Sebastian were surprise visitors to Oxjam's folk festival in Ashton Lane. Following their 6-3 victory over Oxfam staff at celebrity football match, Stuart Murdoch and musical partner Stevie Jackson gave their full backing to the month long music festival by acting as impromptu buskers.
Belle and Sebastian have joined what's expected to be the biggest music festival in the UK, with around 40,000 musicians and an audience of 300,000 taking part in 3,000 music events during October.
The fundraising target of £1 million from Oxjam this year would be enough to provide safe water for 1.4 million people, 20,000 emergency shelters or essential medicines for 10,000 villages.
Eilidh Whiteford, Campaigns Manager said, "Unsurprisingly Belle and Sebastian were a great hit with the crowds and managed to collect a lot of money for Oxfam projects throughout the world. It's great to have their support and the Ashton Lane Folk festival is the start of lots of Oxjam gigs organised all over Glasgow throughout October.
"I'd say to anybody who's interested in music and wants to support Oxfam's work to go onto the website www.oxfam.org.uk/oxjam and go along to one of the gigs."
