Both musicians gave an acoustic set at the Byres Road Music shop in Glasgow to get the Oxjam ball rolling.

Oxjam gigs are being held all over the country to support Oxfam projects around the world. Musicians from all types of musical backgrounds are being encouraged to getting playing to raise money to fight global poverty. Oxjam also offers musicians a chance to reach a wider audience. A number of musicians who performed last year filmed their act at an Oxjam show and uploaded their video to the MTV website. To find out more about Oxjam go to: www.oxfam.org.uk/oxjam.

Speaking of her involvement with Oxjam Emma Curran said, " I have been involved with Oxjam before and it was great fun to do. Any musician, whatever their musical tastes, can take part in Oxjam. I think that Oxfam's aim of fighting global poverty is something that everyone would like to see achieved. What might be a small music gig to some people can raise money that makes a difference to some of the poorest communities around the world. "

Kevin McDermott commented, " Oxjam is about uniting musicians to support the incredible work of Oxfam. With this event as a catalyst the hope is to use the influence of music, combined with the vision of Oxfam, to make a real difference in people's lives...Go on, get involved."

Andrew McWhinnie, Manager of the Oxfam Music shop on Byres Road added, " I am delighted that Emma and Kevin have agreed to come to the shop as part of Oxjam. I hope other musicians will also give their support to Oxjam throughout April. Money raised through Oxjam will go towards our programmes and help people in developing countries work their way out of poverty. "
