After travelling to India to see how Oxfam Unwrapped school equipment has transformed life for poor school children, actress Scarlett Johansson is urging Scots to buy Oxfam Unwrapped gifts this Christmas.

Scarlett said:

"I spent an amazing day with some young girls at an Oxfam-funded school in Uttar Pradesh. They were all from the lowest Dalit caste, but their education had filled them with ambition, self worth and hope for the future.

"Every child deserves that kind of start in life - and Oxfam Unwrapped gifts like desks and chairs, school equipment and even the school buildings themselves can provide this.

"And that's why I am asking for us all to give these kinds of gifts this Christmas."

Actress Minnie Driver has also seen Oxfam's programme work in action, and will be asking her friends for Oxfam Unwrapped camels this Christmas.

Minnie said:

"Oxfam Unwrapped is an amazing programme where you can give gifts to your friends that go to those in need.

"It is a fun way to give gifts that help people to help themselves. This year I'm only asking Santa for camels. I'm sure the elves will be puzzled."

Zoe Ball saw Oxfam Unwrapped gifts including wells, medicines, goats and bicycles making a real difference when she traveled with Oxfam to Malawi.

Zoe said:

"In Malawi I met Edina Mpinga, a woman whose children's lives were literally saved by being able to drink the clean water drawn from a well which was paid for through Oxfam Unwrapped.

"That trip changed my attitude to presents. I came back from Malawi and told all my family, 'no more tat!'

"These are the Christmas gifts people need. You can buy safe water for 10 people through Oxfam Unwrapped for a mere £9 or fix a well for £26. These gifts will be at the top of my Christmas list this year."

Funnyman Johnny Vegas wants nothing but goats this Christmas.

Johnny said:

"I can honestly say I'd love to get an Oxfam Unwrapped goat for Christmas. It's the perfect gift - something that is sure to be appreciated, and can potentially even change people's lives.

"Really, who needs more stuff? But what we all do need is that warm glow of knowing that we've done something that has really helped another person somewhere in the world."

This year Oxfam Unwrapped includes a special range of Flanimal gifts, created by Ricky Gervais. These gifts raise money for more general areas of Oxfam's work - many of which are harder to fund.

Ricky is urging the whole country to buy from Oxfam Unwrapped this year.

Ricky said: "I am so proud to be part of this campaign. These small gifts really do make a massive difference to people's lives and I want everyone in the UK to buy at least one Unwrapped Flanimal for their friends this Christmas."
