The DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal is urging the Scottish public to continue to give, as the need has now become even more urgent.

So far, the total given by the Scots public has increased to nearly £4m, as people respond to the desperate need of Haiti's survivors.

Amanda Hamilton said:

"The people of Haiti's need is still great and the DEC agencies are ensuring that large amounts of aid are getting through to the victims of the earthquake - and quickly.

As a mother of two young children, I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering that is being experienced in Haiti at the moment. Even though we are so far away, I am sure that everyone who has seen the devastating pictures and heard the stories wants to find some way they can assist.

The Scots have been hugely generous so far and we really hope to see that continue. Thank you so much for your support and please remember that the people of Haiti still need your help. Whatever you can afford to give will make a massive difference."

Save the Children's Head of Scotland, Douglas Hamilton speaking on behalf of the Disasters Emergency Committee said:

"A week on from the earthquake that hit Haiti, we have been staggered by the generosity of the Scottish public. The total raised now stands at an amazing £4m. As the full scale of the tragedy continues to unfold we rely on the generosity of donors."

"Over the last week DEC partner agencies have been working round the clock to meet the needs of the Haitian people."

Our 13 member agencies in Haiti are closely monitoring the security situation but are not to date reporting that the isolated incidents seen so far are interfering with the arrival and distribution of aid.
