Oxfam & the Oxford Dictionary celebrate the Little Black Dress
28 August 2010
Victoria McGilp peruses our shops for the best in LBDs.
It exists in every woman's wardrobe. It can be seen at any social event. It can be plain or detailed, worn by day or by night but it is always slimming, always beautiful & always in style. And now it's in the dictionary - the little black dress.
Following reports in the press that the socially recognised term LBD, short for Little Black Dress, has gained entry into the third edition of the Oxford Dictionary of English, we at Oxfam felt it only appropriate to give this staple of women's fashion the recognition it deserves.
Our Oxfam shops have been known to hold many a fashion treasure from jewellery to clothing to footwear but we were pleased to see that in our Byres Road store in Glasgow, the little black dress had been given pride of place.
Elena Smith Shop Manager of the Byres Road clothing store said:
"We get a lot of good quality stuff like Whistles, Oasis and Zara. However the store has also been gifted with unique handmade accessories from some of the best of Glasgow's up and coming designers.
"Over the summer we worked with Caledonian University, and their Fashion & Textile students made stuff for us which was really good. We hope to keep working with them next year."
So whether it is a job interview, first date, or a night out with friends, a little black dress will never let you down. And the odds are Oxfam won't either.
