Day Three: Poverty and health

Afternoon session: Poverty and health

Key focus: Extend work of morning on poverty and health, with particular emphasis on the need for a clean water supply.

Activities
> Water quiz – going short of water (15 min)
> Water maths – global statistics (15 min)
> Celebrate water for all (30 min)
> Creative work

Background information for teachers
As for the morning activities, teachers will probably want to organise the following activities in their own way. However, there follows a suggested timetable of how the activities could be implemented in the time available. As before, this timetable assumes that there are at least 3 computers with internet access available, and that preferably there are one or two other adults available.

Creative work - choose from the following (the children may have time to carry out two activities):

  • Make watery pictures using bubbles/marbling/watercolour wash
  • Make posters inspired by some of the issues raised by Water for all perhaps using the statistics from Water maths.
  • Write a poem
