Curriculum links

This resource will provide many opportunities for work in the foundation subjects and in English Speaking & Listening (S&L). Below is a framework which gives an overview of the material to be covered during the course of the week. You can use this to show to your senior management team if you need to.

 

 

Scheme of work

 

Morning (2.5h)

Afternoon (2h)

Day 1

 

Focus: World cup football... and the world

Focus: World maps

 

Activities: Quiz, asking questions about countries, mapwork.

Activities: Online map activities with the whole class or in small groups; project work on countries involved in the World Cup

 

Main curriculum links: English S&L, Geography, ICT, Thinking skills. Main curriculum links: Geography, ICT, English.

 

 

Day 2

Focus: Football around the world

Focus: A fair competition?

 

Activities: Examining photos of football in different countries; case study of the benefits of football in poor communities in Nairobi and Zambia; looking at goals and thinking about the UN Millennium Development Goals.

 

Activities: Country trumps card game; project work on countries involved in the World Cup.

Day 3

Focus: Girls, boys and playtime

Focus: Teamwork

 

Activities: Girls’ football history and case study with discussion; writing about ‘My ideal playtime’; thinking about recreation at school.

 

Activities: Presentation of project work; practice for 5-a-side football tournament.

 

Main curriculum links: Citizenship, English S&L, Thinking skills. Main curriculum links: English S&L, PE, Geography, Citizenship

 

 

Day 4

Focus: How sportswear is made

 

Focus: Fair working hours

Activities: Understanding the ‘supply chain’; case study of a garment worker’; role-play

 

Activities: : Letter writing; designing a fair hours logo

Day 5

Focus: Is competition a good thing?

Focus: 5-a-side football tournament or presentation of project work

Activities: Brainstorming; formal debate on competition; evaluation of the week’s activities.

 

Activities: 5-a-side football tournament or presentation of project work.
