Caroline's school day continued |
"I go straight into class and start reading, or doing my homework. In my class there are extra lessons before and after school, but we have to pay for them. Scovia and I don’t have money for that, so we are chased out of the classroom. I feel I’m falling behind because we miss those lessons, and I’m afraid now that I won’t perform well. We’re missing so much. |

When I get home I change out of my school uniform. By then I’m looking forward to my meal, because I’m very hungry. If homework has been set, I’ll try to do it before the light fades, otherwise I finish it at school. We don’t have a lamp, and if you don’t do your homework you get caned. The things I am most careful to look after at home are my (school) exercise books. I need those when I have to study for exams."
