Caroline's story

There has been a major conflict in north Uganda for over 20 years. This means that the Acholi people who normally live there are no longer safe in their own homes. They are too scared to look after their crops on their shambas (farm gardens) because there have been lots of attacks and abductions in the area.

Caroline Angom is 13 and Acholi. Her real home is in a village called Tangagoro but she now lives with her Aunt in the Amida camp in the Kitgum district of northern Uganda. The camp is a safe place for people who have been forced to move away from their homes by the conflict. The people who live in the camp depend on the World Food Programme (WFP) for their food, which is usually maize and beans.
