Food at the camp

Caroline only has one meal a day, and she eats this when she gets home from school in the evening.

She says: “On most days we have ugali and beans, with a simsim (sesame) sauce. Sometimes we can have cassava from the shamba. Later this year we should have sweet potatoes and groundnuts from the shamba. Occasionally we might have fish, for a change. But that’s not very often. We eat fruits when they’re in season and sometimes we have milk, but never meat or eggs.”
