OPCION also has a small packing plant in Chimaltenango, where the farmers' vegetables are washed, sorted, and packed for export to the USA.

The buyers have strict demands about the quality of the vegetables they receive, so OPCION must make sure that poor vegetables are rejected, and the selected ones are washed and packed carefully.

When OPCION bought the plant, they took down the front wall so that the farmers could see what was happening to their produce. This helps them to understand the strict quality demands of the buyers and feel more involved in the whole selling process.

Meet Marta Lisia and Maria
“The vegetables here are really good. But I think it is a shame that some people seem to value the products of Guatemala more than they value the people here.”
