How a cotton garment is produced
We followed the life of a cotton garment from the plant to the shop. And here is basically how it all works:
1. The cotton is picked
from the bud. |

2. The seeds are separated from the cotton and used to make oil – this is called ginning. |
| |
| 3. If the spinning mill is close it is taken straight to the mill. If the mill is far away it is compressed and packed into a big box to be sent away. |

4. At the mill the cotton is spun into yarn either with a powerloom or a handloom. |

5. The yarn is then dyed different colours. |

6. The dyed yarn is woven into a fabric. |

| 7. This fabric can be made into lots of different things. Often it is embroidered and then cut and trimmed to be tailored into clothes such as saris. Once this is done the finished articles are sent to the shops to be sold to customers. |
