Visiting Selina’s school

We visited Selina’s school and Selina grabbed my hand and led me in to her classroom. The children were having a maths lesson, and it was being taught in French so I understood most of what was going on.
The school is funded by Oxfam, and the classrooms were really big and new looking. Every one of the (50!) pupils in Selina’s class had their own desk donated by Oxfam Unwrapped. All the pupils were really well behaved and very keen to answer the teacher’s questions — every time she asked anything almost everyone put up their hands and clicked their fingers to try to get the teacher to pick them.

The teacher asked me a question and I had to come up and write the answer on the board. Thankfully it was quite simple maths, as most of the children in Selina’s class, including Selina, hadn’t started school until they were nine.
