Traditionally,
in many villages in West Africa, women did not work to earn a living,
or take part in any discussions about how their households and communities
were run just because they were women.
Oxfam works
with many women's groups throughout the world, helping to show that
it's better to allow everyone to have the same chances.
The photo shows
Maimunata Nombre and her husband in Siguin Voussé village, Burkina
Faso. She belongs to the local women's group, which has a scheme
to lend money to its members so they can start to earn a living.
Maimunata used
a loan from the scheme to buy beans and rice to sell in her café.
She says, 'Relationships are changing. Before, women could not make
their views known to men, but now they will speak . That used to
be unthinkable.'
